2004 BOP Reader Awards Results:
Best Movie
BOP readers voted a landslide winner in the best movie category. Readers chose Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind by a margin of nearly 70% over runner up The Incredibles, which itself was a clear cut second choice over Million Dollar Baby. Sharing a tier with Million Dollar Baby were sequels Kill Bill Vol. 2 and Spider-Man 2. Narrowly missing the top 15 were The Passion of the Christ and Shaun of the Dead, followed a bit further back by Napoleon Dynamite and Closer.
In a remarkable case of kismet, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind also won a Calvin for Best Picture, with The Incredibles placing second. It seems the first rule of writing really is "know your audience". We liked Garden State and Sideways a little better than you, voting them third and fourth respectively. While you liked Million Dollar Baby and Kill Bill Vol. 2 in those spots, we voted them tenth and ninth.
