The spirit of BOP News lives on in
This is So Last Week,
our pop culture week-in-review,
presented in a pleasing quiz form.
Hollywood's latest hot trend, aside from dabbling in politics and
greenlighting sequels and spin-offs before the primary project reaches
audiences, seems to be ballyhooing sex scenes. First Meg Ryan's people were
bending the ear of every media outlet that would listen about her steamy sex
scenes in her upcoming film In the Cut, and now Ewan McGregor is getting
into the act by telling all and sundry about his "realistic" lovemaking in
his latest, Young Adam. According to McGregor, they were trying to make
scenes that were more like sexual intercourse in the "real world", and the
scenes were often "messy or quick, or clumsy and dirty and disgusting."
Or basically, your average 16 year old boy’s experience.

Back to the proverbial cart-before-the-horse pastime, a sequel to
Underworld, which posits a centuries-old war between werewolves and
vampires, is reportedly already in the works. Screen Gems was apparently so
impressed by the audience reaction to a screening in Toronto that it has
given the go-ahead for a follow-up, expecting the film to take the
number-one position at the box office when it is released this weekend.
Rumors that the sequel will have the werewolves and vampires teaming up to
fight the even more reprehensible evil of studio accountants could not be
confirmed at press time.

Cameron Diaz is currently attached to star in WASPS, a World War II drama
about the first female pilots recruited by the military in 1942. The film
will reportedly focus on the training program for the pilots, with Mimi
Rogers in line to play the woman who started the program. Rumor has it that
Demi Moore will not be considered for any role in the project.

Benjamin Bratt has been inked to play Halle Berry's love interest in
Catwoman, which will follow the exploits of Patience Price, a veterinary
scientist who fights the husband-and-wife criminal team who run the
cosmetics company for which she works. Price takes on the alter-ego of
Catwoman in order to foil their evil schemes. Bratt reportedly first piques
Catwoman's interest with a fetching bouquet of tuna and Meow Mix.

Guy Pearce is set to star in the upcoming Australian film The Proposition,
described as a "kangaroo Western" set during Australia's bushranger era.
The film is described as being very violent, very moving and funny. Funny? We thought they cast Guy Pearce.
