The spirit of BOP News lives on in
This is So Last Week,
our pop culture week-in-review,
presented in a pleasing quiz form.

A 10-minute sneak peek at the newest Harry Potter film will air on ABC on May 9th. The preview will air during ABC’s presentation of an extended version of the first film in the franchise, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Throughout the broadcast, the network will air behind-the-scenes interviews featuring the stars of the film as they talk about the most recent production of the mega-successful franchise. The 10-minute sneak peek of the June 4th film will air at the end of the film. The kids should love the feature…that is if they can stay up until 3 a.m. when this marathon will probably end. Harry Potter turned into Eric Forman so gradually, we hardly noticed.

Congrats, mom! And you did it without having to lie down on your back. Slight tangent from movie news: Jennifer Lopez’s mother has reportedly won a $2.4 million jackpot at a Las Vegas casino. What this means is that J.Lo’s mom will be able to almost pay for Lopez’s next wedding. Almost.
The as yet untitled Star Wars III film has been given a release date of May 19th, 2005. The film will continue the tradition of having Star Wars films debut during Memorial Day weekend. Another tradition continued was continued today when the first nerd lined up to buy tickets for the film. Negative reviews of the film should show up online in roughly 26 days. Worst. Parents. Ever.
*Drool* By the way, could Grace Kelly and J.Lo be any more opposite? Paramount has announced that they will be remaking the Alfred Hitchcock classic To Catch a Thief, the 1955 film which starred Cary Grant and Grace Kelly. The project is being driven by producer Neal Moritz and writer Todd Komarnicki. The two partnered on last year’s surprise hit Elf and will set this remake in Miami. In Hitchcock’s original film, Grant plays a retired American expatriate thief (try saying that three times in a row) living near the French Riviera who falls in love with a rich American woman. The ex-thief is then framed for a series of robberies which he tries to exonerate himself of. We can see how Miami was a natural choice.
After years of waiting for some real Fantastic Four news of any significance, Marvel has finally let slip who the director that will helm their next big epic franchise will be. The out of left field announcement that Tim Story, the director of Barbershop, will handle the reigns came as a surprise to a lot of people but Marvel was likely drawn to his capability, as demonstrated in Barbershop, to bring across chemistry and character dynamics across the screen. The Fantastic Four is the story of four astronauts who are bombarded by Cosmic Rays during a trip to outer space. The radiation gives them all superpowers and they end up living life in the spotlight as the premiere superhero group in the Marvel Universe. Of course, we were hoping for a different version of the Fantastic Four; basically, we wanted a 2-hour film of Jessica Simpson and Tyra Banks hugging. Dude, I know.
