Dwayne Johnson, AKA The Rock, is quite the busy boy. Among other projects, he’s also slated to star in the big-screen adaptation of the game Spy-Hunter, which is reportedly set to debut sometime in the summer of 2005. According to the Walking Tall star, his crime-fighting character in the film uses a specially-designed vehicle that can become several different modes of transport. GM is designing the prototype to be used in the film, and Johnson waxed lyrical about the car in a recent interview. Johnson saw the concepts during what he termed “an awesome secret meeting”, and reports that the car is also “awesome”. The Rock went on to say that Spy-Hunter is “like what Mission: Impossible was for Tom Cruise”. Well, it appears those of you proclaiming The Rock the next Tom Cruise have your evil master plan moving along right on schedule. I’m gonna be the next Tom Cruise? Awesome.

It was the tea, man. Steven Soderbergh will be stepping in to helm Che, the upcoming film about Cuban revolutionary Che Guevara, after Terrence Malick abruptly ended his association with the project, which was originally slated to start shooting this summer. Malick will instead direct a film he had been developing simultaneously with Che. No word on what made Malick decide to focus exclusively on his other project, The New World, and rumors that the famed director left the project when a studio lackey asked if he planned on shooting part of the film at the baseball stadium named for the charismatic leader could not be confirmed at press time.
Film-franchise machine Tom Clancy has provided Paramount with yet another spy around which they can build a series of big-budget action/adventure films. The studio has optioned two of Clancy’s books in which the lead character is CIA agent John Clark. The task of bringing the books to the screen has been turned over to two different screenwriters, each of whom will adapt one book. Clark has made minor appearances in two films in the current Clancy franchise, which follows the exploits of Jack Ryan. No word on what effect, if any, a second franchise from the same author will have on the Jack Ryan series, nor is there any word on who is being considered for the lead role. However, there are rumors Paramount will not consider any actor for the role of John Clark who is involved in a high-profile romance and is planning to make a film with his paramour. Come on; you knew we were going back to this well.
