The spirit of BOP News lives on in
This is So Last Week,
our pop culture week-in-review,
presented in a pleasing quiz form.

As a follow up to their successful team up on Minority Report, Steven Spielberg and Tom Cruise will collaborate on a big screen adaptation of H.G. Wells’ alien-invasion classic War of the Worlds. The film is set to begin filming in early 2005 for a likely Holiday release. In the meantime, Cruise will begin filming Mission: Impossible 3 while Spielberg continues to taunt Indiana Jones fans. Cruise and partner Paula Wagner originally set up War of the Worlds with Paramount in 2002 under their Cruise/Wagner production company. Spielberg’s addition will mean that Dreamworks will now be brought on as well. This means that if they start rolling the opening credits right now, the film should begin right on time. For the love of God, pull his finger!!

Tom, if you dare wear short shorts, Nair for short shorts George Clooney is reportedly close to signing on as the title character in the big screen adaptation of the 80s hit TV show Magnum P.I. The Universal/Imagine Entertainment project is currently in the early pre-production stage and formal announcement has been made. Clooney would play Thomas Magnum, a naval officer hired to be head of security of a large estate in Hawaii, a character that made Tom Selleck famous in the 80s. No word yet on whether Clooney will don the trademark mustache, we’re just hoping he doesn’t go with the trademark short shorts.
Television star Enrique Murciano will star as Sandra Bullock’s love interest in Miss Congeniality 2, a sequel to the 2001 surprise hit that saw Bullock play a tomboyish FBI agent who goes undercover as beauty pageant contestant. One of the stars of the one-hour drama Without a Trace, Murciano will play a Las Vegas-based FBI man who falls for Bullock’s character. Also starring are Regina King and William Shatner who reprises his role from the first film. Can a UPN series be far behind? Sandra Bullock? I thought this chap was Armand Assante
Dude, remember when our movies didn't suck? As anyone who watches The Tonight Show can attest, the publicity for Jersey Girl is in full swing and the second most asked question of star Ben Affleck, after questions about his break up with Jennifer Lopez, is the possibility of him returning as Daredevil. The Oscar-winner so far is hinting that he will likely not reprise his role as the blind superhero and has hinted that he might be giving up action roles in general. If there’s any justice in this world, Kevin Smith will only direct action films now.
