The spirit of BOP News lives on in
This is So Last Week,
our pop culture week-in-review,
presented in a pleasing quiz form.

Janet Jackson, she of the halftime breast debacle, has decided to launch her own line of lingerie and intimate jewelry. The Control singer’s nanoseconds of exposure of her nipple and accompanying ring has created a furor across the country, but Jackson apparently sees it as the perfect opportunity to “bring to the world” some of the jewelry she wears in her private life. The new line would include nipple rings, leather bras and chastity belts, and Jackson is reportedly thinking of using some variation of the word “exposed” in the name for the label. So tell us again how the “wardrobe malfunction” was “accidental” and “unplanned”? Remember I told you I was in control.

Really, you’ll like the film. No, honestly, you will. I promise. Kevin Smith is so confident that his upcoming Jersey Girl is a great film, he’s offering a money-back guarantee to any moviegoer who is dissatisfied with the film. Smith, who admits to some anxiety after the critical drubbing co-stars Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez received for Gigli, is proclaiming Jersey Girl a “comeback picture” for Affleck, also pointing out that Jersey Girl is not “Gigli 2: Bennifer Strikes Back”. Smith is so confident that he has stated he’s willing to stand at the door of theatres and tell people, “You don’t have to pay.” As comforting as this is to know about Jersey Girl, there are a number of moviegoers who wish the makers of Gigli had offered the same deal. Or at least the opportunity for people to beat them severely about the head and shoulders.
As we count down to the opening of The Passion of the Christ, seems a day doesn’t pass without some item on the flick. Mel Gibson has been beating the drum hard for this one, and his most recent defense of the controversial epic is the reportedly graphic violence in the film. For those who have been living in a cave for the past year-and-a-half, The Passion of the Christ tells the story of the last 12 hours in the life of Jesus Christ, and Gibson has supposedly filmed some very realistic and disturbing scenes of the crucifixion. The star reportedly wanted to shock audiences with the extremity of what appears on-screen, as he wants people to understand the “enormity of that sacrifice.” Gibson says, “I had to push the audience to the edge, but not so they run out of the cinema. I've done my best not to drive people away. If you don't like it, don't go. If you want to leave halfway through, go ahead." While such noble sentiments may have eased the minds of some moviegoers, it has surely sent waves of terror through the distributors and theatre owners looking to make a profit off booking the film. We got tired of Mel Gibson pics.

"Jedi bitch."
