BOP Daily News

The spirit of BOP News lives on in
This is So Last Week,
our pop culture week-in-review,
presented in a pleasing quiz form.

Apparently, Ashton Kutcher lives by the old Hollywood adage that there’s no such thing as bad publicity. Kutcher appeared at the Sundance world premiere of his new film, The Butterfly Effect, wearing a white cowboy hat, a neckerchief over an ivory shearling jacket and jeans, an outfit which drew a decidedly derisive reaction from the crowd. Kutcher joked that someone had lied to him, leading him to believe that for Sundance, he “had to dress up like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.” Given that casting is now underway for a movie about gay cowboys, maybe the next role he’s looking to play isn’t the previously-rumored Man of Steel. Ashton Kutcher’s clothing was provided by the Gay Cowboy Association.

“Next week on Celebrity Veterinarians...” It’s said the pain is lessened when you make fun of yourself, so Scott Baio seems to have decided if a film is going to make sport of him, he might as well appear in it as himself. Baio told LA newspaper The Daily News that he agreed to appear in Was Craven’s upcoming take on the werewolf legend, Cursed, largely because it gave him the chance to work with Christina Ricci. However, the star told Craven and scripter Kevin Williamson that they could make as much fun of him as they wanted, but not to be completely insulting. He reports he was given carte blanche to change whatever he wanted, but never felt the need to request changes to the script. Guess they must have scrapped the Werewolf Loves Chachi and Werewolf in Charge gags, then.
Ben Affleck, who like nearly everyone else in Hollywood who isn’t currently filming is at Sundance, has been telling reporters that his upcoming film Jersey Girl will actually benefit from last summer’s Gigli becoming the most recent film to become synonymous with the concept of a mega-bomb. According to Affleck, the fact that his previous screen pairing with real-life ladylove J-Lo was a stinker of monumental proportions will keep the marketing people honest in selling Jersey Girl, in which Lopez appears as his character’s wife, who dies in the first 12 minutes of the film. Since the film is actually about Affleck’s character's trials and tribulations in raising a daughter by himself, ads promoting “Ben and Jen, together again” wouldn’t have been accurate, according to the star. Although we suspect Kevin Smith likely has variations on the actor’s nightmare where every ad for Jersey Girl billboards it as Gigli 2. Which, should the latter film ever be greenlighted, is one of the signs of the coming Apocalypse. Bennifer after discovering there *is* a script for Gigli 2.
