This is So Last Week,

presented in a pleasing quiz form.

Should the new version of Superman ever get going, looks like Darth Vader’s momma is the frontrunner to play Lois Lane. Natalie Portman is said to be Warner Bros’ choice to play the Daily Planet reporter who catches Superman’s - and his alter ego, Clark Kent’s - fancy. Of course, first Warner has to find someone to play the Man of Steel; both Jude Law and Josh Hartnett have reportedly turned down the role. Now that the studio has decided to hand Richard Donner, director of the first two Superman films with Christopher Reeve as the superhero, the reins, the most recent scuttlebutt has Brendan Fraser as a serious candidate to don the cape and tights. Reports that the studio is considering Ashton Kutcher as Lex Luthor could not be confirmed at press time. At least they’ve got the young male audience covered.

I’m pulling for Elmer Fudd as the soccer coach. Another interesting pairing on the Hollywood horizon is Jackie Chan and Steve Martin. With Martin cast as Inspector Clouseau in the upcoming Birth of the Pink Panther, Chan has been inked to play Cato, Clouseau’s hapless servant. The film will be a prequel to the films in which Peter Sellers created Clouseau, and would find the bumbling French detective with the odd speech impediment trying to solve the murder of the French soccer team manager. In a unique crossover, MGM is reportedly looking to sign Daffy Duck to play Clouseau’s long-suffering boss.
Wow, what a surprise; Hollywood is looking to turn another comic book into a film. This time around it’s Zoom’s Academy for the Super-Gifted, which is described as a Harry Potter-like project. The story centers on a young high school girl who is quite unpopular, until the day her mysterious father shows up and whisks her away to a new school, the eponymous academy. Turns out said unpopular young lady is a superhero-in-waiting, and the center of learning to which she is spirited tutors fledgling superheroes on how to uncover and develop their superpowers. In order to create more product tie-in possibilities, scripters are rumored to be looking for ways to make shopping a superhero trait. Now this is a cool school logo.

"I'm a superhero, Mother. An effete British superhero."
