Well, it didn't take long for the fallout from MGM nixing the Jinx movie to start. Halle Berry is reportedly furious that the studio pulled the plug on the proposed Bond spin-off that was to feature her character from Die Another Day. Apparently, Berry had visions of herself as a distaff Bond, headlining a franchise of action films. Now that MGM has very publicly torpedoed those dreams, and with little explanation, the Oscar winner is fuming. Hey, that contract with Revlon doesn’t cover her entire insurance premium, you know. The suits at the studio best watch their asses. That’s all I’m saying.

God, this really *is* awful. No wonder they didn’t want it to see the light of day. As one potential franchise dies a-borning, another takes its first steps as a toddler. It’s being reported that 20th Century Fox has greenlighted a sequel to The Transporter, which made a tidy little bundle in North America last year. Star Jason Statham and director Corey Yuen from the first film are supposedly both returning. No word yet on when production will start or what Statham’s title character will be conveying that he’s not supposed to look at but does anyway, although rumors it’s the draft script for a certain now-nixed franchise could not be confirmed at press time.
HBO is branching out from its current penchant for WWII epics by greenlighting a series set in BC Rome. The project will be co-produced by those masters of the costume epic, the BBC. The series will reportedly focus on two ordinary Roman soldiers, but will take place during the final years of Julius Caesar's reign. The two soldier characters would interact with a variety of well-known figures from the period, including Caesar himself, Marc Antony, Cleopatra and Octavius. In an attempt to guarantee the series' success, HBO is reportedly trying to figure out how to work five gay guys doing makeovers into the historical setting. Making over ancient Rome one centurion at a time.
Listen, kid; no more making movies with girlfriends if you want to keep this gig. Maybe things are starting to look up for Ben Affleck. After seeing his film Ghosts of Girlfriends Past 86’d by Disney and amidst rumors that Paramount is considering dropping the star from their next Jack Ryan film, it seems Affleck has found a champion in Tom Clancy. The creator of the Jack Ryan character reportedly wrote the novel on which the next film is being based, Red Rabbit, with Affleck in mind as Ryan. Clancy reportedly feels Affleck is the best screen Ryan to date, and is certain the star will continue in the role. Reports that part of the plotline of Red Rabbit has Jack Ryan going back in time and destroying all copies of a certain movie were being denied at press time.

"Ernest Hemingway once wrote, 'The world is a fine place and worth fighting for.' I agree with the second part. "
