BOP Daily News

The spirit of BOP News lives on in
This is So Last Week,
our pop culture week-in-review,
presented in a pleasing quiz form.

John Singleton, director of such recent snoozers as Four Brothers and 2 Fast 2 Furious, has signed on to direct Convoy. Set in Afghanistan, the film will focus on a group of truck drivers who, out of financial desperation, sign a one-year contract to drive trucks for US contractors. The project is in early stages of production and not much can be confirmed about this Paramount Pictures production. The studio would not confirm early rumors that the film will star the Wu-Tang Clan. Konichiwa, bitches.

Someone should tell Leo that global warming does not exist Leonardo DiCaprio has begun production on his pet project/documentary about global warming. The project will be titled The 11th Hour and is being financed by poker legend Doyle Brunson. DiCaprio, a huge supporter of environmental causes whose movie The Beach caused a lot of controversy in Thailand for causing environmental damage to a protected area, looks to release the film some time next year. BOP could not confirm if Martin Scorsese is involved, but the film’s length is rumored to be under eight hours so we can pretty much guarantee that he isn’t.
Early reviews for King Kong are in and most of them can be considered positive to extremely positive. It seems that the film is better than it looks (well, better than its CGI looks anyway) and that Peter Jackson has another hit on his hand. The positive thing about the raves is that they seem to consistently point to the film having a strong story and strong emotional impact versus just being an all-out action slugfest. A high quality action film is exactly what 2005 needs as those films have been very few and much too far between. Of course, people might just have residual euphoria stemming from the next X-Men 3 trailer that premiered with the movie. No? Not buying it? Peter Jackson
