Sometimes these items just write themselves. Tara Reid, reportedly nearing a breakdown due to the cancellation of her E! TV show and a paucity of other work offers, has decided all her career problems can be traced to her treatment by the American media. Reid is apparently upset that she is often portrayed as a party girl who’s fond of the booze and the recreational drugs and is what used to be called a woman of easy virtue. Reid has reportedly fired her publicist, whom she also partly blames for this image of her, and apparently feels the media “picks on” her, and should be following the “new young bad girls” instead of her. For those unfamiliar with Reid's latest magnum opus, Taradise, we would like to point out that according to the show’s official Web site, its premise was to follow Reid as she traveled to a different country each week, where she enthusiastically joined the locals at the hottest night spots and in their most hedonistic celebrations. The site includes stills and video of Reid in action, imbibing the local festive drinks and becoming very friendly with the natives, and also provides the tagline for the show: “She’s improving world relations...one party at a time.” Yep. Quite the mystery where the press got that nasty idea Tara likes to party down. At least now she'll have time to get back to her important research.

Hey, you go with what works. Harrison Ford - remember him? - has just been signed to star in the Civil War-era film Manhunt, based on the upcoming James L Swanson book, Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase for Lincoln’s Killer, which, as you may have already guessed, focuses on the hunt for John Wilkes Booth after the actor assassinated Abraham Lincoln. Ford will play Colonel Everton Conger, who led the New York Cavalry in the intense search, which ended when Booth was cornered in a Virginia barn and killed in a hail of gunfire. Reports that Ford is insisting his character wear a battered fedora and carry a whip in the film could not be confirmed at press time.
The people who brought you what has now become the Austin Powers franchise are apparently at it again. Reports have surfaced that a fourth film in the spy spoof series is being planned, hopefully to coincide with the release of the 21st entry into the Bond franchise in 2006. If the film comes together as currently planned, it may well find Mike Myers’ creation going in back in time to fight his nemesis, Dr Evil, as a youth. Perhaps the producers could also use the time-travel gimmick to go back to a point in history where this franchise was still funny. As featured in The Big Book of British Smiles
