The spirit of BOP News lives on in
This is So Last Week,
our pop culture week-in-review,
presented in a pleasing quiz form.

Well, it seems the dream casting of Keith Richards as the father of Johnny Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow in the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, the sequel to the hugely successful first Pirates movie, subtitled The Black Pearl, isn't going to be. At the time of the first film's release, Depp cited in several interviews as having based Sparrow, arguably the best thing about that first film, on Richards, and the actor was quite excited to have the aging rocker appear in the sequel flick. But now it seems that the Rolling Stones' guitarist won't be able to join the cast of Dead Man's Chest due to the band's touring schedule. Depp is reportedly quite disappointed in this turn of events, saying, "It doesn't look like it will happen now. Keith is on tour so it's hard to fit into the timeframe we're working to." When Keith Richards was reached for comment, the veteran rocker gave a heartfelt reply...which no one was able to understand. Keith will be very upset to hear he has to return the costume.

Hey, when they make a decision, well probably stop using his pic. Probably. Seems that, as they say, the more things change, the more they remain the same. Before BOP News went on its summer hiatus, there were recurrent stories speculating on the identity of the actor who will next play James Bond. For those who've forgotten, after revitalizing the franchise, Pierce Brosnan was rather unceremoniously dumped by Barbara Broccoli & Company after four films and a reported agreement to do a fifth. In the intervening year or so, speculation has waxed and waned over who will play the legendary British super-spy in the upcoming 21st entry in the franchise, which at least has been given a definite title, Casino Royale. A variety of actors have been touted as possibly becoming the next Bond, including Clive Owen, Colin Farrell, Ewan McGregor, Ioan Gruffudd and Hugh Jackman, and at several points Broccoli has stated publicly that Brosnan would, in fact, continue in the role. Now it seems the game has started up once again, all because one of the purported candidates, Daniel Craig, has gone in search of a first-edition of the Ian Fleming novel with which the 21st film will share its title (because really, when was the last time any Bond film was even remotely based on one of Fleming's novels?), and the London bookseller from whom Craig sought a copy decided this would be a good way to publicize his shop. We here are BOP News believe we speak for legions of moviegoers when we urge Broccoli & Company to just pick someone, anyone, and have done with it already. At this point, as long as the Bond merry-go-round is done, we really don't care who plays the role. Just as long as Uwe Boll doesn't direct, we'll be happy.
And in news that is certain to break the hearts of several BOP staffers, reports have been confirmed that Rebecca Romijn, former wife of John Stamos, is planning to marry actor Jerry O'Connell. Rumors had surfaced that the couple were planning a New Year's Eve wedding, and while the joint statement issued by the couple didn't confirm a date, it did substantiate the engagement rumors. The statement went on to say the couple "couldn't be happier" and were looking forward to getting married. The BOP News editors are eagerly awaiting our invitation, as we have our eye on a lovely pair of silver candlesticks that will make smashing wedding presents. And we promise not to make a scene during the part of the ceremony where they ask if anyone present knows why the couple shouldn't get married, speak now or forever hold your peace. That is, if you don't consider wailing, rending of garments and gnashing of teeth a scene. Soon to be known as Mr Romijn.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means"
