The spirit of BOP News lives on in
This is So Last Week,
our pop culture week-in-review,
presented in a pleasing quiz form.

Gladiator might have been the death of Russell Crowe’s character, but the film’s producers are interested in a rematch. Co-star Djimon Hounsou has stated that while the death of the main character is an obstacle, plans are still being made for a sequel. In short, they made money off the last but not enough money. So, they want to make more money with a sequel that doesn’t star the A-List actor who anchored the original production. BOP suggests a title of Son of the Gladiator. You can't blame them for wanting to not have Russell Crowe around.

See how happy she used to be before the depression and Tom Cruise? BOP continues to take the side of semi-forgotten actress Brooke Shields as she feuds with Tom Cruise. Our heroine has gotten over her post-partum depression is now ready to work again. The former Rizzo in a Broadway production of Grease is ready to put on her dancing shoes once again. She will portray Roxie Hart joins the famed revival of Chicago, showing once again what a feisty fighter she is. BOP would be first in line to support her in her upcoming endeavor if not for the fact that we are movie elitists who find Broadway plays quite minty.
Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. Well, you shouldn't pay attention to the old versions of his work, anyway. There is a new DVD release of The Wizard of Oz in the offing, and the October 25th debut promises to be the best yet. Cinephiles will appreciate the restoration's improved quality as well as the first new bonus features in a dozen years for the legendary production. The focus of this DVD is unexpectedly not to screw consumers out of more money for a film they already have. Instead, it's being made with an eye toward the future. High definition television is the focus of the improved graphics quality although this is not slated to be a HD-DVD title. Sadly, there will not be a simultaneous joint update of The Wiz due to some recent *ahem* unpleasantness involving co-star Michael Jackson. Not guilty!
This could double as a Bewitched prequel. Grass roots marketing has reached new heights for one Rob Reger. In 1993, the quirky creator began making a series of T-shirts and stickers featuring a character named Emily the Strange. The ugly duckling 13-year-old girl was intended to be an anti-establishment nerd, but she grew so popular that she is a viable franchise now. For several years, plans have been in place for her to get the big screen treatment. Fox has stepped up and put the wheels in motion for Emily the Strange to finally become a major motion picture with a mix of live action and animation. We envision a preteen version of Daria and possibly a future sequel showdown of Emily the Strange vs. Napoleon Dynamite at Thunderdome.
