The spirit of BOP News lives on in
This is So Last Week,
our pop culture week-in-review,
presented in a pleasing quiz form.

Catherine Zeta-Jones is returning to familiar territory for her next project. The Traffic star is ready to sign on for the lead role in Rachel's Holiday. The project tells the story of a drug addict who accidentally pushes away everyone she loves during her erratic moments. This fall from grace forces Rachel to flee New York for Dublin and the friendly confines of a rehab clinic. There is absolutely no truth to the rumor that this film is a Courtney Love biopic. She never had any loved ones. Remember when I wriggled under the laser in Entrapment? That was cool.

Stop-time heart for me if she's not mine. Freeze frame! BOP fave John Cusack is returning to familiar territory in his next project. The former teen icon joins 2005 Academy Award nominee Morgan Freeman in The Contract. The film reverses Cusack's role in a prior film, Gross Pointe Blank. In that outing, he portrayed Martin Blank, a conflicted contract killer dealing with an unexpected outbreak of conscience. In the upcoming project, Cusack portrays one of three generations of a family, all of whom accidentally cross Martin Blank type while on a family outing. Why do these things never happen to the Hiltons? Come on, karma. Do your business.
A princely sum of $3.5 million has been paid by the kind people at Sony Pictures Classics. Their acquisition is Thumbsucker, a recent Sundance Film Festival sensation which won a special jury prize. The movie tells the story of a teen student who decides to quit the titular bad habit, only to face unexpectedly negative consequences. Yes, we are just as surprised as you to discover that Thumbsucker is not based on various members of the Philadelphia Eagles receiving core. I plan to model my crybaby ways after Freddie Mitchell and Terrell Owens.
I'm like a pre-implants Jennifer Love Hewitt! Eva Longoria is taking time away from her busy schedule of robbing the cradle on Desperate Housewives long enough to make a movie. The nascent sex symbol will join former It girl Kim Basinger, bad day expert Kiefer Sutherland and May/December romance veteran Michael Douglas in The Sentinel. The story involves a torrid affair between the Douglas character, a secret service agent, and Basinger's character, the First Lady. Of course, all of this irrelevant to the more pressing issue, the photograph of Longoria posted next to this. Enjoy!

"A thousand innocent people get killed every day! But a millionaire's pet gets detonated, and you're marked for life. "
Previous edition's quote: An American Werewolf in London
