Sean Penn has authorized a biography. Not only that, but Penn has helped author Richard Kelly with the writing of same, and all apparently without any fisticuffs involved. The tome will, however, tell how Penn nearly ended up in the hoosegow whilst filming Shanghai Surprise on the island of Macao. Penn and his personal assistant, who was also a kickboxing coach, were, according to the tale, attacked by a man as they entered the actor's hotel; in response, Penn and his personal assistant overpowered the man and hung him over the hotel balcony. As everyone who has ever read a news story about Penn has already deduced, the guy was actually a photographer, and one unwilling to simply accept a threat of being dropped nine floors as part of the territory; the police were called and charges of attempted murder were lodged against Penn and his assistant. But the jails in Macao have seen to have about as big a problem with security as the Vulcan High Council, and Penn and friend escaped through an unlocked jail-cell door, and then high-tailed it down to the docks and escaped the island. According to Penn, he was later given a "pardon from the Portuguese government", Macao being a Portuguese territory. No word on whether the pardon also included Penn making the atrocity that was Shanghai Surprise, but considering what a mess that film was, the moviegoing public might have been better off had Penn stayed in lock-up for a while. Did that guy over there just take my picture?

I'm not sure In addition to not researching her upcoming role in a Marlene Dietrich biopic, Gwyneth Paltrow is reportedly also looking to give daughter Apple a little baby brother or sister. Paltrow and her partner, Coldplay front-man Chris Martin, are said to be so thrilled with parenthood they can't wait to have another go, and are supposedly already working on a family sequel. A friend was quoted as saying, "It wouldn't surprise me if she had another baby by next Christmas." Fans are encourage to start sending the couple baby name books now.
Kathy Najimy may be going before the cameras soon in a biopic on another famous woman, The Mamas & The Papas star Cass Elliot, who died in 1974. The film, which is currently planned for the small screen, has been delayed for years due to legal problems, but Najimy is hoping to get the project on the air sometime in the new year. From her research, Najimy has come to describe Mama Cass as an "amazing, trailblazing woman" and hopes to show the impact Elliot had, both politically and in the music world. And if you think we're going to repeat that chestnut about the ham sandwich and Mama Cass sharing it with Karen Carpenter...hell, you're already halfway there; make up your own punchline. And everybody's getting fat except Mama Cass.
Stole your thunder again, baby. Cameron Diaz is reportedly such a big fan of the ABC hit Desperate Housewives that she's snagged herself a bit of stunt-casting. Diaz has reportedly decided to stretch her acting muscles and has signed on to play herself in a brief appearance in an upcoming episode. According to sources, Diaz believes the cameo will be the "ratings smash of the year." Reports that Demi Moore has signed on to play herself in the same episode could not be confirmed at press time.
