The spirit of BOP News lives on in
This is So Last Week,
our pop culture week-in-review,
presented in a pleasing quiz form.

Gwyneth Paltrow has apparently decided her return to moviemaking from being a full-time mum will be in a biopic about legendary screen siren Marlene Dietrich, and is eschewing all opportunities to research the life of the German cinematic icon until she reads the script. The project was begun before Paltrow became pregnant with baby Apple - yes, in case you’ve forgotten, that’s the poor tot’s name - and Paltrow is reportedly so excited about playing Dietrich that she doesn’t want to bring any preconceived notions to the role. Citing Dietrich’s life as “incredible” while admitting she doesn’t know much about the ‘30s sex symbol, Paltrow feels seeing the script before researching Dietrich’s life will prevent her from “becoming an expert” on screen legend’s life before the script is “right”. That sound you hear is Marlene Dietrich turning over in her grave at such a high rate of speed as to provide the power needs of a small village. Apple. You heard me. Apple.

It’s the Curse of the J-Lo, man. She hooks up with you and your career goes down the toilet. Paramount has apparently decided to branch out in its Tom Clancy franchises, having acquired rights to Clancy’s video game Splinter Cell and hiring Friday Night Lights helmer Peter Berg to direct. The video game, which follows spy Sam Fisher instead of CIA man Jack Ryan, is in its second edition, and is considered to be one of the most successful of the so-called “stealth” action games. As one might expect given the title, the game follows Fisher as he infiltrates an international terrorist organization in an attempt to thwart its plans. Paramount has also hired the game’s writers to script the film, along with Berg. Guess this is one way to avoid that whole sticky “Should we have Ben Affleck keep playing Jack Ryan?” situation.
Having seemingly expanded their deal with Satan to include appearances in the press every couple of weeks, Lucifer’s most recent delivery on that part of the bargain is a report that Ashley, the non-anorexic sister, has been secretly studying...wait for it...acting. That’s right; somehow the little darlin’ got it into her head that if she was going to appear in movies, she might want to, you know, learn how to do that acting thing everyone's always talking about. Ashley is reportedly studying the Meisner Technique, which focuses on improvisation. For some reason, this item reminds us of that old saw about teaching a pig to sing. So like today, I’m playing the part of a no-talent, spoiled little rich brat.

"When I asked for your advice, I didn't mean that you should actually speak."
