This is So Last Week,
our pop culture week-in-review,
presented in a pleasing quiz form.

Does the world finally have a Superman? It looks likely as Latinoreview.com was the first to report that an unknown actor named Brandon Routh has been cast to play Superman in the upcoming Warner Bros. blockbuster. Of course, mere hours after the news broke, everything on the Internet having to do with Routh and the Superman production went kaputz due to ridiculously high bandwidth usage. The 25-year-old actor has sporadically guest-starred in varying TV shows such as Will & Grace and Gilmore Girls, and had a couple of starring roles in One Life to Live and MTV Undressed. He was credited as BJ Routh for the MTV show, which might or might not have anything to do with him getting the role. Presented with no comment

They cast a white guy? Chris Rock, the brash, smart, subversive and hilarious comedian has been tapped to shake things up at the next Oscar night. Rock will host the marathon in place of regular host Billy Crystal, whose act has worn thin. This is a huge departure for AMPAAS, whose choice of hosts, including Crystal, Steve Martin and David Letterman, traditionally skewed older and more conservative. Rock’s profanity-laced, culture-smacking stand-up act would never translate well to network television and it will be interesting to see how he adapts to this project. The only guarantee is that someone will be slammed mightily...but probably not Jack Nicholson.
Mel Gibson is practicing what he is preaching by donating a total of $5 million to two separate Los Angeles-area hospitals who specialize in children’s care. Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and UCLA’s Mattel Children’s Hospital are the beneficiaries of Gibson’s generosity. Woohoo Mel! A real Superman
