The spirit of BOP News lives on in
This is So Last Week,
our pop culture week-in-review,
presented in a pleasing quiz form.

John Singleton, who won critical acclaim for Boyz N the Hood and plenty of flack for 2 Fast 2 Furious, has been tapped to direct Four Brothers for Paramount Pictures. The feature film concerns four brothers who set out to avenge the death of their mother. Marky Mark Wahlberg is in negotiations to star in the film. Well, Wahlberg started out acting like a brother, so it’s only appropriate he be cast in this role. Yeah, boyeeeee!

I'll *&$# Marky Mark up Ray Liotta and Jason Statham will star in the Guy Ritchie action film Revolver. Ritchie abandoned the project a year ago in favor of a project called Six Shooter, but that production went on the fritz. Revolver will be produced by Luc Besson and Marty Katz and is now in production in London. It's the story of a hotshot gambler who becomes tangled in a game with deadly consequences. Ritchie wrote the film, which will mark the third time he and Statham have teamed up on a project. Their second, and most successful, endeavor was Snatch, the critically acclaimed cult hit that also starred Brad Pitt and Dennis Farina. Ritchie, aka Mr. Madonna, will allegedly try and set the world record for the use of the C word in one two hour movie.
Spider-Man fans will be getting milked next year when Sony releases Spider-Man 2.5, a DVD release that will feature scenes and special effects added on to the theatrical version of Sony’s hit Spider-Man 2. Some 38 different DVD versions of the theatrical release are set for release in November but the very special 2.5 version will be released in 2005 where Sony hopes to capitalize on a rejuvenated interest within the film’s core fans. Raimi, on his behalf, is making no apologies for the very niftily all-so-special DVD saying "Sony said to me, 'We want to release a 2.5,' because they want to make more money. It's not really that I had some scenes to put in. The movie really was the best I could make it. It's not like I think I could make it better… It's just a financial decision by the studio. They know that people who liked the second movie would want to own it as it is on DVD, and then it's just a gamble. 'Oh, if we spend another four million dollars, can we make another ten million dollars?' I think that's how it works." This won’t be the first time that a studio has done this; in fact, Fox did this with another comic-book franchise when it launched X-Men 1.5 six months before the release of X-Men 2. Up next for the X-Men franchise is X-Men 2.5, with a sneak peek at the upcoming Superman…wait, that doesn’t sound right. Me too
