Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling said on her official Web site that a major character in her series of books would die in the upcoming book Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. The mega-popular children’s series has seen a major character die previously, in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and has been growing steadily darker with each publication. The next feature film installment of the franchise, based on the fourth book Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, is currently shooting and is set for release November 18th, 2005. Just publish the damn book already. Sorry, suckers.

Could I BE anymore of a director? Speaking of BOP favorites, the television show Scrubs will be getting a special visit from former Friends star Matthew Perry. Perry will make his directorial debut when he helms an episode of the NBC comedy. Perry will also star in the episode, which will be about a man who tries to donate a kidney to his ailing father. Perry will play the son, and in a very Hollywood move, Perry has cast his father, John Perry, to play the father. John Perry is a former actor and made his fortunes as the Marlboro Man. This will be his first significant acting job in a long time. Matthew Perry is still waiting for his first significant job of acting.
American Gangster, a film which would have featured Denzel Washington and Benicio Del Toro in starring roles, has been scrapped by Universal after director Antoine Fuqua left the production. Written by acclaimed screenwriter Steve Zaillian, the production was receiving a lot of buzz for all the big-name talent involved. Unfortunately, less than a month away from shooting, the production fell apart and was canceled. The stars of the film had a pay-or-play agreement, which means that the actors get paid even if the movie does not get made. Obviously, Denzel’s agent is much better than Ricky Williams’. Run, Ricky, run
Now that's what I'm talking about! Trey Parker and Matt Stone were able to edit their upcoming puppet movie, Team America: World Police, to meet the standards of the MPAA board’s R rating. The two creators of South Park edited a now-infamous sex scene, starring two puppets, ten times before the board approved an R rating for the comedy. The MPAA asked the changes be made to the scene due to it being prolonged, intense, graphic and containing varying positions. In related news, Billy Thompson, a 12-year-old in Omaha, Nebraska, has been arrested for playing with his sister’s Barbie dolls and putting them in rude sexual positions.
