The spirit of BOP News lives on in
This is So Last Week,
our pop culture week-in-review,
presented in a pleasing quiz form.

All you Wolverine fans can rejoice; 20th Century Fox is developing a project for the mutant slicing machine first seen on the big screen in X-Men. The studio has hired Troy writer David Benioff to write a screenplay for X-Men producing team Lauren Shuler-Donner and Avi Arad. The studio expects to ink a deal with Hugh Jackman to reprise the role of the Canadian rogue hero. Proving to be the most popular character from the X-Men films, as well as being one of the most popular characters in comics, Wolverine is a tough guy with a tortured soul, a shady past and a big heart. Oh yeah; he also likes to walk around without a shirt on a lot. My, what big claws you have

Kevorkian cutting cheese during his trial Producer Steve Jones, the man behind Bee Holder Productions, has acquired rights for a film about Dr. Jack Kevorkian, AKA the suicide doctor, who is serving 10 to 25 years in prison for the assisted suicide of terminally ill patients. Barbara Kopple is attached to direct the story, which is based on an unpublished biography on which Kevorkian is cooperating with Neal Nicol, his assistant of 25 years, and Harry Wylie, a longtime friend. The BOP editor would like to say that we will just ignore that political minefield and move on to our next story.
The Los Angeles Times is reporting that even though Pierce Brosnan has not ruled out another turn at James Bond, it appears to be a highly unlikely event. The paper reports that producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson are seeking a new, young Bond to replace the 51-year-old actor. The age range they are reportedly aiming for is 28 to 32 years old. At the rate that this production is moving at, they’ll have to cast a teenager. Say what?
Who is Cletus Tout?! I was in that! Richard Dreyfuss has announced that he is retiring from making films and will focus on his theatre career. The star of such hits as Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Jaws and What About Bob? will shift his focus from feature-length projects and concentrate on the stage. Dreyfuss’ last role….errr….moving right along…
Warner Bros. has denied rumors that it has pushed back the release of Alexander because it was “too gay”. The rumors flying around were that the studio needed time to tone down the homosexual relationships portrayed in the film and therefore pushed back the release date. The Oliver Stone project, focusing on the bisexual Alexander, contains a romantic sub-plot between Alexander, played by Colin Farrell, and another character named Bagoas, played by actor Francisco Bosch. WB vehemently denies the rumors and stands by its original reason for moving the release date of the picture, and that is to make it more competitive come Oscar time. Dude, we’ve seen the pics of Farrell. If that ain’t gay, we don’t know what is. Is that a sword under your tunic or are you just happy to see me?
