Universal Pictures is in negotiations to pick up the rights to Dave Egger’s debut book A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius. Originally published in 2000, the rights for the book had been picked up by New Line Cinema but the project is now in turnaround and Universal might be picking it up for Kimberly Pierce, director of Boys Don’t Cry. The book is an autobiographical recounting of Egger’s life and how had to care for his 8 year-old brother after his parents passed away. Here is a drawing of a stapler. Great book; we hope they do it justice

Next up for bill: The live action version of Andy Kapp Drew Barrymore has signed on to star in the Dreamworks project Date School. The film is about a woman who enlists the help of a dating instructor when she realizes that she is terrible at dating. Bill Clinton hasn't been cast yet, but give it a week.
Well it is official: Christian Bale is the new Batman. Jeff Rubinov, President of Production for Warner Bros, made the announcement yesterday that Bale would be donning the cape and cowl for director Christopher Nolan who made a name for himself with the indie hit Memento. Let's see, he can play dark better than Clooney, has more charisma than Kilmer and better hair than Keaton. About damn time they got it right. You think he can pull off a shirtless scene?
See, the joke is that all his movies go horribly over budget...hey, how about those Bale abs?! After they finish work on Collateral, it looks likely that Tom Cruise and Michael Mann will once again collaborate on a big screen feature. The Few will tell the story of Billy Fiske, the first American pilot killed by Germans during World War II. The film is in the extremely early stages of production and will likely not fly for at least two years. There already rumors that Mann will take the production so far over budget that he will inadvertently start the Fourth Reich.

"Yes, okay, i gotta leave. I've got a 10:30 lunch with Cliff Huxtable."
