The spirit of BOP News lives on in
This is So Last Week,
our pop culture week-in-review,
presented in a pleasing quiz form.

We’re all for freaky sex, but this might be a little too freaky for even us. Gender-bending gender-benders is one of the main themes of Southern Comfort, a new film starring Sissy Spacek and Alan Cumming. Spacek is best known for her role in the classic horror film Carrie, but recently garnered rave reviews for her work in In the Bedroom. Cumming, meanwhile, is best known for his role as Nightcrawler in X-Men 2, but has also become one of those “that guys” with his supporting work in many, many films. Spacek will play Robert Eads, a female-to-male transsexual while Cumming will play Lola Cola, a male-to-female transsexual. The story is about the love affair that transpires between the two. We can think of at least six different ways that this relationship would have to be consummated. No, we're not reusing the Hillary Duff pic from yesterday

Are you trying to seduce me, Mrs. Robinson? Seriously, I'm not the psychic one here Rob Reiner is replacing Ted Griffin as director of the Warner Bros. update of The Graduate almost one week into production. Griffin wrote the romantic comedy about a woman who puts her marriage plans on the shelf and returns to her hometown of Pasadena, California in an attempt to unveil her past family secrets. The woman, who is being played by Jennifer Aniston, discovers that the classic film The Graduate was based on her family. The film will co-star Mark Ruffalo, Mena Suvari and Kevin Costner. Also starring will be Shirley MacLaine as Aniston’s grandmother, the inspiration for the Mrs. Robinson character. Poor Mark Ruffalo.
Simon and Schuster, the publishing arm of Viacom, the owners of CBS and MTV, are considering a lawsuit against Disney and M. Night Shyamalan for what they consider to be similarities between the filmmaker’s The Village and author Margaret Peterson Haddix’s book Running Out of Time. While no formal charges have been brought, the publisher and author claim to be weighing their options as they feel that the parallel between the two stories might be too similar for their liking. Meanwhile, Shyamalan faces what might be a second lawsuit over his material as he is already facing a lawsuit from a Pennsylvania screenwriter who claims that the filmmaker’s third film, Signs, was based on one of his unproduced scripts. In unrelated news, the BOP news editor is considering action against Marvel comics on the grounds that Spider-Man is a blatant rip off of a doodle his grandfather once came up with during his third grade math exam. For my next film, a children's author is haunted by her creations...Wha? Who's Stephen King?

"I was just thinking what an interesting concept it is to eliminate the writer from the artistic process."
Previous edition's quote: Dazed and Confused
