This is So Last Week,
our pop culture week-in-review,
presented in a pleasing quiz form.

If you missed it the first time around, and chances are you did, Marvel and Lion’s Gate will be re-releasing, so to speak, The Punisher on June 25th, perhaps to take advantage of the upcoming release of Spider-Man. The Punisher is set to see its screen count increase on the 25th, a good 3 months after its original release. Having grossed just over $33 million domestically, against a production budget of $33 million, the film will most likely end up being a modest winner for Lion’s Gate and the release of its brother-in-comics Spider-Man seeing a gigantic, mega, super-ultra release on June 30th, the studio is hoping it can build on its current number. Didn’t New Line do the same when it re-expanded Daredevil when Gigli opened? Overcompensate much, Dolph?

I just called to say, where are you? No, seriously, where the f*** are you? Lorenzo Di Bonaventura (thank goodness for cut and paste!) is in negotiations to acquire the feature film rights to Rick James’ autobiography Memoirs of a Super Freak. If successful, Di Bona…Lorenzo would house the film at Paramount Pictures where the early plan is to have Dave Chappelle play the jerry-curled funk rock superstar. Chappelle has impersonated James on many occasions though he has never ventured into any dramatic roles. Knowing that James produced Eddie Murphy’s “Party All the Time”, we are saddened to say that this would likely mean that there is no chance that Murphy would play Stevie Wonder in the film.
Even further evidence that Hollywood thinks very little of its audience, Columbia Tri-Star Home Entertainment has announced that it is introducing a new feature to two upcoming DVD releases of Three Stooges films which will allow the viewer to watch the film in either its original black and white or in a new colorized format. According to CTHE, the new colorization process, developed by West Wing, “…brings new life and blah blah blah blah blah.” This is either Hollywood thinking people have no taste, or is actually a sign that people have no taste. Curly must be spinning in his grave..but not on his back; on his side, going “woowoowoowoo. woowoowoowoo.” Nyuck nyuck nyuck
