As you may have heard already, Jurassic World did pretty well this weekend. How well, you ask? It became the first film ever to earn more than half a billion dollars worldwide on its opening weekend, beating the previous record, Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2's $483.2 million, by almost $30 million. Not bad for a franchise that was stuck in amber for the last decade, with writers and directors coming and going as Universal tried to get a new film off the ground with little success. The $307.2 million Jurassic World earned outside of America this weekend may not have broken the record for the biggest overseas debut ever - that still belongs to Harry Potter 7.2, which earned $314 million on its record-breaking weekend back in 2011 - but that's splitting hairs. This is an historic result whichever way you slice it.

A distant second is San Andreas, which managed to shake more change out of the pockets of international audiences. The Dwayne Johnson-Massive Bloody Earthquake vehicle added $42.5 million, giving it a new overseas total of $254 million, and a global one of $373.3 million. It only needs another day or so before it overtakes G.I. Joe: Retaliation to become the second-highest grossing non-Fast & Furious film of Johnson's career.

Spy is third as the Melissa McCarthy espionage comedy continues to find traction with international audiences. It earned $13.5 million, giving it a new overseas total of $80 million, and a global total of $136.9 million. It has now surpassed the $70.3 million that The Heat earned overseas in 2013, and has Bridesmaids' $119.3 million firmly in its sights.

Insidious Chapter 3 is flagging in fourth as the horror prequel with the confusing numeral earned $6.7 million for a new total of $26.3 million. Since its global take of $63.6 million is roughly six times what the film cost to produce, the slower performance isn't exactly that big of a deal.

Mad Max: Fury Road idles in fifth this weekend as the George Miller masterpiece added $5.4 million. Its international take of $195.1 million is a career high for the director, overtaking Happy Feet, which earned $186.3 million in 2006. It still has a way to go to overtake the $384.3 million global total that film earned, but it looks like it still has a little gas in the tank. Currently, Fury Road has a global total of $333.7 million.

Tomorrowland limps into sixth with $4.6 million, giving it a new total of $102.9 million internationally, $186.5 million globally. It's creeping up on its reported budget of $190 million, but this is still looking like a costly failure from Disney.

In seventh we find Hamari Adhuri Kahani, an Indian romance which earned $4.1 million. It's followed closely at eighth by Stand by Me Doraemon. The Japanese anime added $4 million for a new total of $170 million.

It's a dead heat for ninth and tenth place this week, as Pitch Perfect 2 and Avengers: Age of Ultron both earned $2 million. The a cappella smash has now earned $91.2 million internationally and $261.8 million globally, all against a reported budget of only $29 million, while the Marvel team-up has new totals of $917.2 million and $1.36 billion.
