2010 Oscars Fashion: Best Dressed

Best Actress winner Sandra Bullock gets my vote for best-dressed of the night. Her metallic Marchesa gown with lace embroidery fit her like a glove, and her simple hairstyle, jewelry and makeup complemented her, adding to her elegant look.

I knew Penelope Cruz was making my Best Dressed list when I noticed her in the background of a pre-show Oscar red carpet interview. My eyes immediately went to check out Cruz and her burgundy Donna Karan Couture pleated gown. Cruz seems to be a consistent fashion hit rather than a miss, and this gown was definitely a hit. It worked beautifully with her skin tone, and the updo and simple jewelry helped make the already stunning Cruz look even more so. (I think the only thing that could have looked even better in this shot was getting the sexy Javier Bardem in there somewhere, but I digress...)

Queen Latifah dresses to flaunt those curves, and this year's Oscar dress was no exception. Her pink Badgley Mischka gown with one (jeweled) shoulder was proof that one can look like Hollywood royalty even if you're not a size 2.

While I am generally not a fan of ruffles, I was a huge fan of Elizabeth Banks in her Versace gown. Who on earth besides this woman can look elegant in grey? (Truth be told, I believe that Banks could make a 'best-dressed' list wearing a potato sack.)

I was originally going to add Robert Downey Jr. to this list for his offbeat sneakers, blue tinted sunglasses, and blue bow tie, but I think his wife Susan belongs on the list as well. Her metallic striped gown looked gorgeous on her.

I never thought I'd see the day that Mariah Carey would show up on any best-dressed list. It seems as though she has (hopefully) learned a little lesson after her Golden Globes fashion fiasco - she seems to have actually learned about a little something called "elegance." Her navy Valentino gown still showed off some of Mariah's best, um, assets, but not overly so. Hopefully Mariah learns from this that she can dress a little more age-appropriate and still look sexy.
