President Donald Sutherland is so thoughtful.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1

Unsurprisingly, leading the way on the biggest box office black hole of the year is The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1. It’s got a third Friday of $6.6 million, down 73% from the inflated Black Friday number. Once again looking at how far off Mockingjay is from Catching Fire, the third entry now stands at $242.6 million whereas Catching Fire was at $317.4 million as this same point a year ago. It might crawl over the $300 million mark when we hit the Christmas season, but there’s it’s not going to make much more than that. Mockingjay takes its third straight weekend at the box office with $22.2 million.

The Pyramid

Despite being tossed out on just 589 theaters and given virtually no advertising, The Pyramid makes an abysmal #10 on Friday with just $450,000. Let’s just call it a cool million for the weekend and then never mention it gain.

Notable Holdovers

It’s the typical turkey hangover for the Thanksgiving openers, with Horrible Bosses 2 down 57% to $2.7 million and Penguins of Madagascar off 77% to $2.4 million. The rest of the weekend will be kinder to the penguins but this is bad all around. Look for Horrible Bosses 2 to come in with around $8 million and Penguins of Madagascar to come in with $9.5 million for the weekend.
