Jessica is sad because she didn't get the starring role in Ninja Cheerleaders.

Welcome to the latest installment of summer weekday numbers analysis. I apologize for my absence the past three days. My physician decided I had an internal organ I didn't need, so he ripped it out of me. All I remember about the past three days is that the painkillers were huge and the feelings of euphoria were artificially stimulated. In the interim, Kim Hollis has done a fine job in keeping you informed on the behavior of last weekend's new films. The short version is that Nancy Drew has held up pretty well given its opening weekend, but that's like praising a football player for getting a 10 on his Wonderlic when everyone was expecting him to get a 7. Meanwhile, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer has been falling at a speed defying the laws of gravity and physics.

That law-defying speed definitely shows no signs of slowing, either. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer managede $3,939,721 on Thursday, a drop of 12% from the previous day. For those who have been following along as we compare its weekdays to Fantastic Four, the first film continues to make the sequel look shameful. Fantastic Four dropped only 9% on its first Thursday, and also had a total more than $600,000 higher than that of Rise of the Silver Surfer's. As a reminder, the original Fantastic Four dropped a heady 59% in its second weekend. With the less than exemplary performance of The Silver Surfer, all evidence from the daily numbers continues to point to a 60% or higher drop in weekend two.

As for Nancy Drew, the Warner Bros. film basically holds steady and compares favorably to other kid flicks in the top ten with regard to daily decline. Even so, we're probably looking at a best case scenario of $3.5 million for weekend number two.
