Best Scene

Because we can can can! (Moulin Rouge!)

Best scene turned out to be a great, grand mess of a category, with little consensus at all. 90 separate scenes received votes, with little agreement among anyone as to which scene even in a particular movie deserved notice. It's little surprise then that the individual scores are lower here than in any other category. Moulin Rouge! makes up in volume for the other categories here with nine scenes getting at least one point. It did manage among that to consolidate some support behind the first scene inside The Moulin Rouge, which could also go by the name of Zidler's Rap. Monsters, Inc. makes its first appearance in a top five, with the frenetic chase through door storage grabbing the most votes of any scene in this group (a whopping six). Gandalf's standoff versus the Balrog was the most popular among six scenes noted from The Lord of the Rings. Pearl Harbor makes a positive appearance here, with the depiction of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor striking a very visceral chord for three voters. A second scene from Moulin Rouge! takes fifth place, that of Christian and Satine's love song medley on top of the Moulin Rouge! elephant. Just below this group, The Royal Tenenbaums placed two scenes in the top ten, as did Memento.
