World Series Champs
1. Slumdog Millionaire
An all-around great film that works on many levels.
2. The Dark Knight
    Believe the hype.
3. Tell No One
An incredibly effective and moving mystery.
4. The Wrestler
Perfect performances and masterful direction make it one of the year's best.
5. Milk
A good film made great by a perfect performance.
6. WALL•E
When will we see a romance this strong again?
7. Let the Right One In (Sweden)
Chilling, haunting, disturbing. It'd be hard to pack more atmosphere into a film.
8. Revolutionary Road
Very, very good, but I'm a sucker for Sam Mendes.
9. Frost/Nixon
Among the year's best without question. Sort of an unlikely sports movie.
10. Doubt
An acting clinic with an intriguing play on protagonist and antagonist.
11. Iron Man
Maybe the most fun I've had in the cinema all year.

Made the Playoffs
12. Burn After Reading
The Coens? Officially on a hot streak.
13. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Excellent performances, a good movie - not the year's best, but certainly good enough.
14. In Bruges
    Martin McDonagh is absolutely brilliant.
15. Forgetting Sarah Marshall
    Solid and satisfying, if uneven.
16. Recount
Worth a look for political types.
17. W
Interesting and well-made, if not the bombshell we were all expecting.
18. Quantum of Solace
The directing faltered, but Daniel Craig didn't.
19. Changeling
Far from Clint's best, but handsome and worth a look.
20. Zack and Miri Make a Porno
Somewhere between old Kevin Smith and new Kevin Smith, a funny, pleasant (!) movie.
21. Cloverfield
A breath of life into the monster genre.
22. Vicky Cristina Barcelona
Far from Annie Hall, but worth a look.
23. Get Smart
    Good for a quick laugh.
24. Tropic Thunder
Didn't set the world on fire. Still pretty damn funny.

Put In a Solid Effort
25. Run Fatboy Run
An entirely acceptable romantic comedy, with some genuinely funny moments.
26. Hamlet 2
That's just crazy enough to work!
27. Be Kind Rewind
Let's save the rec center! Or something like that.
28. Hellboy II: The Golden Army
del Toro really, really likes making cool monsters.
29. The Incredible Hulk
Will be forgotten against Iron Man and The Dark Knight, but not bad.
30. Mister Lonely
Harmony Korine's best film is still a bit of a trial.
31. Man on Wire
    An admirable miss.
32. The Pineapple Express
Not as good as "Paper Planes" by M.I.A. Still okay.
33. Seven Pounds
Smith can't make this one work, try though he might.
34. Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist
Band Name? Band Name. Band Name? Band Name. Band Name? Band Name.
35. Just Buried
Not quite funny enough, but not a complete waste of your time.
36. The Strangers
Simple, easy horror, big on atmosphere.

Finished Below .500
37. Australia
Dude, Baz....what the hell was that. Seriously.
38. Quarantine
They're sick! Totally not zombies. Not at all. Also not all that interesting.
39. Baby Mama
    Funny actresses, unfunny script.
40. Lakeview Terrace
I have had it with these mf'in interracial couples in my mf'in suburb!
41. Hancock
Solid premise ruined by feelings and emotions and all that lame stuff.

Rebuilding Season
42. The X-Files: I Want to Believe
If it were an episode, you would've changed the channel at about 9:18.
43. Diminished Capacity
Insulting to the elderly AND the mentally disabled!
44. Mirrors
    Needed a loudly ticking clock.
45. Midnight Meat Train
Not worth your time, even for horror nuts.
46. Religulous
I've never been so offended by a film I agreed with 90% of.

Fire the Manager. Actually, Just Sell the Team.
47. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
The South Park episode? Very, very accurate.
48. The Reader
Just bad. I know it, you know it, the Weinsteins know it, deep in their black hearts.
49. Four Christmases
    Unbearable.
50. Mamma Mia!
    Pierce Brosnan sings. Any questions?
51. The Happening
Am I too mature for a "The Crappening" joke? Apparently not.
52. Jumper
What was this movie even about, again?
