Power Rankings for 12/27/16
Best Picture
P/R Last C/R Film
1 1 99 La La Land
La La Land missing at SAG is not good for it and don't let anyone tell you otherwise, but until PGA or DGA do damage to it, it is still in first place.
2 3 98 Moonlight
The alternative has clearly emerged as the little indie movie that could, and watch out for it if it wins SAG
3 5 97 Manchester by the Sea
I can't really say anything else other than those two win, but if a critical movie is going to do it it would be this highly respected one.
4 -- 90 Fences
Out of nowhere came this play turned movie by Denzel and Viola that has been beloved by audiences as well.
5 -- 80 Hacksaw Ridge
This movie also seems like a lock, it is the American Sniper of the year.
6 4 75 Arrival
Arrival is in trouble but since it has passionate support, and that is what you need for a nomination, it seems like a good bet still.
7 2 70 Jackie
Jackie seems unlikely to get in at this point, but you never know, given the praise the performance has. Think "The Queen"
8 7 69 Hell or High Water
Also fading, but also still a strong bet.
9 -- 65 Hidden Figures
A SAG Ensemble nod and a strong reception by critics has put this on the Best Picture radar.
10 6 60 Loving
Loving is likely to miss, but let's wait til the PGA to completely rule it out.
