Power Rankings for 11/21/16
Best Director
P/R Last C/R Person/Film
1 -- 90 Damien Chazelle - La La Land
As goes Best Picture goes Best Director, right? Well, not quite since the expansion, but a nomination seems in the bag for the BP front-runner.
2 -- 85 Pablo Larrain - Jackie
A bit of irony in having a foreign director helm a movie about a quintessential American icon, but his touch is distinctive and memorable.
3 -- 80 Denis Villeneuve - Arrival
Already popular after Sicario, the Canadian director should probably find himself nominated given the impressive craft (if nothing else) of his film.
4 -- 75 Barry Jenkins - Moonlight
He could become one of less than a handful of African American men to make the cut here.
5 -- 70 Mel Gibson - Hacksaw Ridge
Some have compared his movie to Saving Private Ryan--or at least seen it as an update of it. He is probably still controversial, but has a shot.
