Spotlight |

How funny would it be if we just ended up, full circle, with Spotlight, after all the moving back and forth from it? |

The Revenant |
|
The Revenant still has a tall order to climb: No director has seen his movies win back to back Best Picture trophies, only one movie (Braveheart) has ever won Best Picture without a SAG ensemble, and it is also lacking a screenplay nomination. Only Titanic and The Sound of Music...you get the idea. |

The Big Short |
|
The Big Short, by contrast, has clicked all the boxes, something not even Spotlight or The Revenant did. It has citations by all major guilds (Spotlight missed ACE and Revenant SAG), it has both mains nods at BAFTA (Spotlight missed Director) etc. But is it too "comedic"? |

Room |
|
With all this crazy division, will the most consensus movie emerge victorious? That is definitely Room, and an upset win by it would be a great cap to a wild Oscar season. |

Mad Max |
|
Mad Max is fading quickly, having failed to win any major precursor award at this point. The Brits like George Miller, but the movie isn't up for the big prize. |
