Power Rankings for 12/3/15
Best Picture
P/R Last C/R Film
1 1 95 Spotlight
Folks it doesn't get closer than this. Spotlight is still ahead, but by a hair, and appears more and more a default.
2 6 94 Carol
The NYFCC win has all but assured it a nomination.
3 10 93 The Martian
A few weeks ago considered an outside shot, somehow the word of mouth The Martian has built is such that failing to make the cut at this point would be stunning.
4 8 80 The Revenant
Outside the top 3, the Revenant is making a serious push up. The screening showed that it's a contender, even if too violent to pull it off.
5 2 75 Joy
I've moved Joy down because others have won awards recently, but I have a strong feeling people are underestimating this feel-good, classic American story. It will be too hard to ignore, and I could see it winning it all, to be honest.
6 4 70 Room
Room still has the TIFF People's Choice win, which tends to yield at least a nod, even though no TIFF movie has won it all in over a half decade.
7 9 69 Brooklyn
This middle pack is also immensely crowded, mostly by pictures that are beloved by critics.
8 5 68 Bridge of Spies
This movie just needs to hold on to enough support at the top to sneak through.
9 -- 50 Inside Out
The juggernaut animation awards it's winning (including it's recent sweep of the Annie nominations), could help it.
10 -- 49 Mad Max
Mad Max finds itself back in the picture after the surprising NBR win.
