12 Years a Slave |
|
The tie at the PGA and the fact that it is listed atop so many critical groups' awards (not to mention that it is the most "traditional" of the three) makes this movie the ever-so-slight favorite for now. |

Gravity |

What a difference a week makes. From a slight chance to a real threat - the DGA win for Gravity cements its status as a serious contender. Much will become clearer after the BAFTA awards on February 16th. Or will it? |

American Hustle |
|
Although it was knocked down from its top spot, American Hustle still has a real chance of playing the spoiler role and sneaking through the middle of the photo-finish race between 12 Years a Slave and Gravity. The fact that Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Adams show plenty of cleavage, we are sure, has nothing at all to do with it. |

The Wolf of Wall Street |

Controversy sells, and the fact that the controversy has subsided may be hurting the movie's overall chances. Not to mention the three-way horse race at the top. |

Isn't it too soon for another black and white gimmick to win? |

Dallas Buyers Club |
|
Best Picture remains a reach, but this movie has a real chance of netting three Oscars (Actor, Supporting Actor, and Make-up) - that may be more than most of the other Best Picture nominees not named Gravity or 12 Years a Slave - combined. |

This far down the ballot it is fair to say that rankings are somewhat arbitrary - is there a difference between a snowman's and a snowball's chance in hell? |

Philomena |

Why not? We keep hearing that "the British contingency of the Academy" loves this movie, and Harvey Weinstein surely will cash in a few favors to get some votes for Dame Judi, right? |
