Power Rankings for 1/27/14
Best Adapted Screenplay
P/R Last C/R Person/Film
1 -- 88 John Ridley - 12 Years a Slave
Have you ever tried adapting a 160 year old story to make it relevant in 2013? Ridley deserves to win for that achievement alone.
2 -- 72 Richard Linklater & Julie Delpy & Ethan Hawke - Before Midnight
This marks two straight "Before" nominations for the talented trio.
3 -- 60 Terence Winter - The Wolf of Wall Street
Winter is now more than just the anchor of all things HBO. But Winter's candidacy is going, not coming.
4 -- 50 Steve Coogan & Jeff Pope - Philomena
Yes, that dude who starred in abomination that was Around the World in 80 Days is now an Academy Award nominee for his writing and producing. There is no justice.
5 -- 25 Billy Ray - Captain Phillips
While an also ran in the category, Ray should be commended for adapting a recently chronicled news item into a gripping drama.
