Power Rankings for 12/22/08
Best Original Screenplay
P/R Last C/R Person/Film
1 99 99 Dustin Lance Black - Milk
Only concern would be lactose intolerance.
2 90 88 Woody Allen - Vicky Cristina Barcelona
In case we weren't clear last time, Woody Allen is going to get a nomination.
3 55 68 Charlie Kaufman - Synecdoche, New York
We're hoping that Kaufman brings an actor playing Kaufman up on stage if he wins.
4 40 62 Robert D. Siegel - The Wrestler
We had dismissed this as a star vehicle, but now we're allowing for the possibility that this one gets a lot of nods.
5 88 60 Jenny Lumet - Rachel Getting Married
Most of the mentions it has received so far have been very minor.
6 70 55 Andrew Stanton & Jim Reardon - WALL-E
Has an advantage over the rest of the competition because its fan base is so passionate in their support.
7 25 45 Mike Leigh - Happy-Go-Lucky
It still hasn't gotten a major nomination, but the movie itself has.
8 60 38 Nick Schenk - Gran Torino
Lack of attention for the movie makes us think that it only gets a nod for Eastwood as actor, but National Board of Review win keeps it in the discussion.
9 45 30 Thomas McCarthy - The Visitor
Has some strong supporters that could push it to a nomination.
10 -- 20 Martin McDonagh - In Bruges
Fun Fact: This would not be McDonagh's first win. He previously won for Best Live Action Short for Six Shooter in 2004.
