Power Rankings for 12/4/08
Best Director
P/R Last C/R Person/Film
1 -- 92 David Fincher - The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
You may not believe this, but David Fincher has never been nominated for an Academy Award. That ends this year.
2 -- 85 Danny Boyle - Slumdog Millionaire
  See above: re Academy shunning.
3 -- 75 Gus Van Sant - Milk
The Academy still owes him for the Good Will Hunting slight.
4 -- 65 Christopher Nolan - The Dark Knight
He's done for Batman what Peter Jackson did for Lord of the Rings, and like Jackson, has indie cred to boot.
5 -- 50 Ron Howard - Frost/Nixon
May very well be the most liked person in Hollywood. Even Russ Crowe can't find anything negative to say about him.
6 -- 45 Sam Mendes - Revolutionary Road
Pros: Did a fine job handling a Titanic reunion. Con: Has already won in this category.
7 -- 40 Darren Aronofsky - The Wrestler
The third member of this list who has never been nominated. Well, it's understandable for The Fountain, but not for the rest of his work.
8 -- 39 Clint Eastwood - Gran Torino
Hey, Clint? Let some of the other kids play!
9 -- 34 Jonathan Demme - Rachel Getting Married
People know him and he's won before, but the title may be too thematically similar to Silence of the Lambs. Yoink!
10 -- 24 Edward Zwick - Defiance
Between this, Blood Diamond and The Last Samurai, we think Zwick really needs to do a romantic comedy.
