Power Rankings for 10/25/06
Best Director
P/R Last C/R Person/Film
1 -- 89 Martin Scorsese - The Departed
Marty might end up going door to door to beg for votes.
2 -- 62 Clint Eastwood - Flags of Our Fathers
Two Oscars in three years seems unlikely for Clint.
3 -- 51 Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris - Little Miss Sunshine
The Academy has only once given the award to a directing team.
4 -- 40 Neil Burger - The Illusionist
Even if the film is nominated, Burger is probably a longshot.
5 -- 38 Oliver Stone - World Trade Center
A controversial figure these days, which cuts both ways.
6 -- 35 Stephen Frears - The Queen
Like the picture itself, will get British backing.
7 -- 30 Paul Greengrass - United 93
May impress some with its faux cinema-verite style.
8 -- 22 Kevin MacDonald - The Last King of Scotland
A real darkhorse candidate, he got many great performances.
9 -- 20 Sofia Coppola - Marie Antoinette
Every film Coppola makes will be a contender if only for the briefest moment.
10 -- 16 Christopher Nolan - The Prestige
Stylistically a strong film, but there's not a ton of buzz for the film overall.
